Site Administration and Transparency

One of the issues that I'm most concerned about is administrative transparency, and how to create an environment where all users can feel enfranchised, be warmly embraced, and get great suggestions implemented with maximum ease.

Just from personal experience, my best times in communities are in communities where the rules are fair, clearly codified, and well enforced without exceptions. The administrators usually do not wield their powers via fiat, but go through clearly established community channels on everything. I've met a lot of antagonism when trying to implement this sort of thing on sites I've administered in the past, but I'm convinced that a democratic atmosphere is essential to a community's long term health.

I will be using this post to expand more on this topic when the most crucial technical issues have all been resolved.

Agree with the majority of what you said. I think moderators should be there to do just that: moderate, leave the members to do things a bit more freely.
