Where to Start?

...okay, I'm a little new to all of this so I apologise in advance for anything silly I might say. But I recently finished the first Visual Novel I ever played: Ever 17. It blew my mind, it was really incredible. I've played a lot of Video Games in my life, but nothing like that. Anyways... apart from playing one route of Fate/Stay Night (cause that's the only route that's been translated), that's my only experience with visual novels. I've watched a lot of anime (and some which have been based on bishojo games such as Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, Shuffle or Air), and have a fair bit of manga, but I had a few questions...

Firstly, what are some more good ones for me to play? I can't read much Japanese, a little but not enought to get through a game. So I'd need a game that's been translated into English. Also, I don't mind if the game is ergo or hentai, but I am concerned with it having a good story or characters. Second thing... there is the best place to buy them? Ebay, Jlist? Or some where else? I noticed Hirameki have not shut down, so I suppose I can't get anything through them.

Finally, are there many out there that do actually have english translations? I looked around the site and saw a number of the fan translations, but there don't seem to be an awful lot out there...

Thanks for any advice! I really appreciate it!

Oh, and P.S if anyone else is from Australia, do they know of any good retail shops that sell games, anime, manga, figurines etc.? I live in NSW specifically. I only know of the Kinokuniya bookshop, I can't imagine there are many places out there that sell that stuff, but if you know of somewhere, I'd love to hear about it!

Welcome to our community :)

For translations, a good place to start is our translation wiki: http://www.tsukuru.info/tlwiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

Doujins are games of which some are really good and moreover they are free.
As for translations out there, Fate is a really good title you've already enjoyed. If you like Type Moon's style Tsukihime is definitely a title you'll like as well.

From the commercial English translated titles Crescendo, Kana little Sister and especialy Yume Miru Kusuri are really good stories.

Another translation which I can think of atm is Utawarerumono.

With these games you can fill MANY hours, just Utawarerumono eats much time (and is definitely worth it).

I'm not from Australia, but the best source I can think of are Peach Princess or J-List when it comes to commercial English translated titles. For original Japanese games Himeyashop.com or Paletweb.com.
If you are looking for soundtracks, mangas, novels or PS2 games from Japan I can recommend Yesasia.com and Playasia.com

Hope that helps you a bit :)
