i'm really new with visual novels and one of my friends suggested to me to try and play the fate stay night visual novel..i dont have the slightest idea where to download one (a PC game not PS2)..can anyone please give me a site?

Do you know the Japanese language? If yes there are tons of good visual novels out there. If not there are plenty translation patches + good amount of commercial English translated games like from Peach Princess.
The starter visual novel which doesn't cost much and I can recommend to everyone is Ever17.
As for where to get original Japanese visual novels there are import shops like himeyashop.com or paletweb.com
Of course there's always a torrent for each game - that's illegal though so asking for or even posting that kind of stuff is prohibited. However I can give you the tip to check out the Hongfire Forums ;)
Finaly you should check our main site, there the section V-N Introduction and translation patches. You'll find several tips there how to run visual novels, which games are currently translated etc. etc.
