Anime you dislike but everyone seems to like?

As the title states, what anime do you dislike but everyone seems to like? Ok you don't have to hate it but hasn't there been an anime that everyone LOVED but you thought was just ok or you just not interested on it.

I myself never interested Ouran High School Host Club. I tried to watch it but I never even laugh, even in full four episodes of it. I don't know how to describe it. Just I am not the target audience of the show. In other words Ouran wasn't overrated or overhyped but overpraised. It just get too many merits that it don't deserve.

School Days is also another anime I have no interest at. I knew lot of people dislike it too but there's a huge fanbase of it. I dunno why. In my opinion, School Days is the Mortal Kombat of the anime world. Mortal Kombat become one of the most successful games not because of its graphics or gameplay but controversies behind it. This same goes to the (in)famous "Nice Boat" scene in last episode of School Days. Let's hope there will be no second "Nice Boat" in 2008 anime.

Any anime that just too dark like Jigoku Shoujo, Higurashi series and Elfen Lied. I just too optimistic to enjoy such shows.

There aren't any hardcore anime fans where I live, so I don't get exposure to much anime outside of what is on cable TV.

Most of the "normal" anime fans really like highly mainstream//heavily televised//never ending series such as One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Inuyasha, etc. I just don't see why most of those are all that great. Maybe it's just me. T_T.

Oh geez. Don't go comparing just anything to Mortal Kombat. Instant and complete defamation.

EDIT: WOW. I totally forgot about stuff like Pokemon, Yugioh, etc. Maybe the Japanese versions are better, but the dubs of those are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo incredibly bad.

Hidamari Sketch <_< It seems popular at least, but I couldn't get further than 1½ episodes before tossing it aside.... All the random blinking was giving me a headache too.

There are others too, but I can't think of them right now.

For recent shows, it's Myself; Yourself, which I hate. I'm not as big on the Kyoto Animation series either.
mutio's picture
Hm, I love slice of life anime like Hidamari Sketch and Ouran High School Club is one of Bones' best works. Just personal taste though de arimasu.
Personaly I hated the hype about School Days. Sure the game has it's bloody moments too but they've totaly overdone it. And every Otaku who says "nice boat" to me can have a kick for his/her bad taste pff.
Other shows I can't myself force to watch are Clannad (as Demian nicely said on his blog "Keyches", had enough of them; I still watch it but for the jokes), then Higurashi since I'm just absolutely no horror fan and find this anime rather disturbing - something I don't want to have in my free time de arimasu.
What else, hmm. Ah right, PaniPoni Dash bored the hell out of me, Rozen Maiden also was never my thing. And finaly, Suzumiya Haruhi. Yes this "mega show". I found it OK, even have the first DVD of the US special edition - but I didn't find it that absolutely great. The mixed episodes just annoyed me and the fact that the series was just too short. I read the first 2 volumes of the novel (awesome, go read it now de arimasu!) and there's just SO much they still can put in the anime..
And to close this post of complaining finaly I totaly dislike all the Lyrical Nanoha stuff (go away with this magical girl crap, it's ANNOYING de arimasu!) and the legendary Neon Genesis Evangelion is just average in my opinion.
Mashiroi's picture
Hmm...

Evangelion was good but everyone needs to get over it and watch other stuff. Love Hina and Chobits can both die since the manga versions are so much better. (Spiral fits in that category too).

Azumanga Daioh never managed to hook me in, and I was severely annoyed when AMV Hell 3 was made up of 90% clips from it. Trigun also never managed to grab my attention. Wolf's Rain is pretty popular but I lost interest in the characters and I hate post-apocolyptic stories. Everyone seems to like Gundam MS Team some-number-or-other but I still stick to Gundam Seed as the best of the series (and, apparently, I'm one of the only people on the internet that feels this way).

Oh, and for oldies I never liked Cat Girl Nuku Nuku, nor Robotech.

And does it count that I hate Megatokyo too?

Haruhi. I don't get why so many people like it as I found the whole thing to be boring. I stopped watching it after the 11th episode.

I loved evangelion... well now that I think about it, why did I like it so much... But yeah I totally agree with Mashiro about Love Hina and Chobits, plus I'm adding Mahou Sensei Negima to that too.
Sorrior's picture
I agree evangelion overrated i also think akira sucks and the love hina mangas about 1000 times better same goes for negima the anime is good but the mangas way better azumanga daiho as well i just can't get into it own the boxset but havn't even been able to finish the first disc

Anything that's completely "actiony" in a DBZ sense I won't watch. (aside from Naruto and Bleach)

Anything that completely lacks a plot point, or anime where characters "reset" at the beginning of each new episode I won't watch.
Sorrior's picture
well naruto and bleach aren't as "actiony" as dbz they have more involved and intricate plots and are all around better.of course i still like dbz just not my favorite.
The One Freeman's picture
Yeah, I suppose.

I was speaking in the sense that melee combat is the backbone of the series.
honoreixix's picture
Bleach and Naruto.......I dunno...I just don't like super long anime series......I think my limit is 50-70 episodes...i favor 12-26 episode anime...
mutio's picture
Yeah, same goes for me. If 50 episodes than either in two seasons or it is a really good show like Eureka Seven to name an example.
honoreixix's picture
ah yes...Eureka 7 was a good one...the ending was bit......lacking though, although we were amused about that huge heart in the moon...
mutio's picture
I loved the ending lol, best ED ever in a anime! Finaly not one with any clichee/emo shit whatever, and the moon, just cute^^
honoreixix's picture
I'm beginning to like School Rumble less and less...The randomness was just fine but having too many seasons kind of ruins the mood...
mutio's picture
Yeah, I'm also not a fan of those never ending stories. Even if a story is great, it has to come to an end some day. Otherwise the plot starts to drop and you eventualy will dislike the manga/ anime.
tuttle's picture
Hyped shows I couldn't get into? Evangelion and Haruhi were just OK for me, though I can understand some of the stuff filtering into otaku culture. Azumanga Daioh I couldn't really get into, Lucky Star either. Elfen Lied had interesting moments, but seemed too obsessed with pushing the envelope as much as possible rather than developing an interesting plot. A lot of the late night slice of lifes and romance/dramas I really can't get into.
mutio's picture
Try Ichigo Mashimaro and Minami-ke as for slice of life, they are really good.
Today I watched the raw of the last episode of Aria the Origination, damn, that made me sad..

As for Elfen Lied, I'm no fan of those gore/ splatte type of anime (that's also why I never watched Higurashi, ok, no horror fan either). The Elfen Lied manga is really though, one of the cruelest stories I know.

I didn't really like School Days after it's ending.

Gave me that terrible feeling in my stomach...so did the manga..

School days I grew to hate the characters and wished everyone of them would die...my wish almost came true(crazy chick on the boat ruined it for me). Well I don't like one piece and found out most people enjoy it. I also didn't like Trinity Blood and most people like it *may be because I don't really care for vampires...im a werewolf fan*.

Basically highschool drama x20.

And Makoto sleeps with everybody (he deserved to be stabbed)
mutio's picture
Ah the School Days anime is so fuc*** up..
The game is 1000 times better. Still bit dramatic though and some endings are really bloody.
All in all this isn't my type of game and in my eyes it absolutely doesn't live up to it's hype in my eyes.
The One Freeman's picture
I would LMAO if it happened at my school.
tuttle's picture
School Days was awful. And I agree on One Piece - I just couldn't get into it. Trinity Blood hasn't hooked me yet, but my roommates have sworn to show it to me ad nauseam until it does...
mutio's picture
Well, the problem is with those "never ending series", that they put in fillers although they have already enough material to cover and stretch things for whatever reason.

The One Piece or Naruto manga are pretty good and each week I'm reading the latest chapter.

Trinity Blood, Gantz or Blood+ I didn't like too. I'm absolutely no horror fan to add. I like horror elements in games (ah, Elma in F.E.A.R. is so sweet :inluv:; or the Ravenholm level in Half Life 2, awesome).
That's also why I never liked Higurashi or similar stuff.

"...we don't go there anymore....trust me that gate is sealed for a reason"

And it was a damn good reason....F*king fast zombies...and a crazy Priest.

Half-Life (best game ever made) wins in horror.
honoreixix's picture
i didn't like one peice also because i wasn't able to follow the story due to the filler episodes...
mutio's picture
Another argument more for the manga, check out onemanga.com, I'm reading all my favourite series there, great site. Germany is far behind in those series or they aren't even out here.
honoreixix's picture
Higurashi kinda gives me the creeps, i admit that the hairs on back stand a bit...
