But everything else is impeccable about this title, from the score to the writing, and the outstanding art. Something extra must be said about the art, its soft lines and saturated tones really sets it apart from most eroges out there. The atmosphere it creates is melancholy and dramatic, which is just perfect.
This is a rather unambitious visual novel in terms of plot however. While extant, the plot does not very well use the interactivity of the medium, and is on the weak side. Its strengths are in its ability to draw the reader into its characters, not its circumstances.
The visual novel gets high marks for the down to earth portrayal of last year Japanese high school students, and its consistent ability to draw attachment and emotion from the reader, from beginning to end. Unlike other works, it doesn't slowly blossom, but reveals its beauty from the start.
Every straight male eroge fan should read this, if only to serve as a contrast from the disgustingly caricatured mess that other eroge call their cast. From one perspective, it's a rose in the polluted eroge pond.
There is some supernatural at the end.

But it is exemplary. A lot lot better than what you find in the English market. The art is awesome too.
To me I feel like Crescendo did what it did really well, I fully think that it's just the perfect size, and that trying for more would have been detrimental.
However would be awesome to see another game in the same vein that did try for more though. Unfortunately I hear that Crescendo was a bad seller, this market doesn't really like story based games.
And here is a crazy idea, mix Crescendo and Great Teacher Onizuka, Onizuka and Ryo together will pack some major punch :P
